For those on a tight budgets, private accommodation should be the first on their checklist. Not to be confused with private student accomodation, these accomodation are houses or apartments rented out (but not exclusively) to students.The price range for private accommodation varies from £50 to £200. The distance to universities and the city centre also varies since the location is not restricted to only one area of Liverpool. If you decide to opt for private accommodation, we strongly advise you to research the area where the accommodation is located so that you will not have an unpleasant experience during your stay in Liverpool.
Kensington Fields
Kensington Fields is located at the edge of Kensington and is probably the safer part of Kensington. It is situated only a 15 minutes walk away from the central campuses and has many types of restaurants and grocery shops nearby.
Kensington Fields being designed as a student neighborhood has houses ranging from 2 to 7 bedrooms. Each house is equipped with a kitchen and living space. The number of toilets depends on the number of bedrooms in the house, and the size of the house.
If you go through an agent, the rent will range from £65 to £90 a week and it will most likely include all utilities except for Internet, which you can easily get from any one of the media providers.
Smithdown Road
Smithdown Road is one of the few places where you can find cheap private accomodations; mostly houses managed by various agencies. Further than Kensington Fields, it takes around 20 to 30 minutes to walk from Smithdown Road to the University Square.
The great thing about staying around Smithdown Road is that you are within walking distance (5-10 minutes) of one of the best budget supermarkets, Asda. Around the area, you can easily find lots of grocery stores, fresh markets and shops of various kinds.
If you plan to get a bicycle or car, then Smithdown Road is one of your best options as the rental is much cheaper than the private accommodations around the campus or those under the University.
