GROCERIES

Coming from a nation that places that much emphasis on good food, it is only natural that we would want to attempt to recreate some dishes from back home or perhaps even try your hand at some new dishes. Here are some places that we feel has competitive prices and also offers a large selection of fresh and frozen produce.

ALDI

Aldi has a wide selection of groceries at low prices. Many of the products sold here are specially made just for ALDI so you might not be able to find many big brands. There are 2 stores in Liverpool; the first is located in the city center below St.John's shopping center and th second on Smithdown road.

     TOP TIPS
     - Bring your own bag as they charge for plastic bags

LIDL

Lidl is similar to Aldi as it has a large selection of fresh and frozen produce. Lidl has a few stores around Liverpool but the ones most easily accessible to students are located on London road and in Kensington. Lidl has a bakery that has amazing cookies, donuts and buns at low prices.

     TOP TIPS
     - Bring your own bag as they charge for plastic bags
     - Lidl has a reduced corner that is always a good place to find                   ingredients

Chung Wah Supermarket

Chung Wah supermarket is one of the biggest Chinese supermarket in Liverpool and your one stop supermarket for all Chinese ingredients. Chung Wah offers a wide selection of fresh produce, frozen produce, dried food and sauces. Some of the produce offered include Tofu Pok, dried black mushrooms, white carrots, luncheon meat, and Chinese herbs.

St. John's Market

St. John's market is located in the city center that sells all kinds of meat. It can be found on the top floor of St. John's shopping center. The selection of meat is much wider and sometimes cheaper when compared to the conventional supermarket. There are also some restaurants here if you fancy a bite or a cuppa.

     TOP TIPS

     - Bring a bag, as you probably won't want to be walking around              town with a wet plastic bag filled with meat

     - Weekday afternoons are probably the best time to go if you are           not a fan of big crowds

TESCO Express / Superstore / Metro

Tesco is probably the priciest option amongst the rest however it is the most assessable of them all. Tesco Express, which is the most expensive option, is located near most if not all accommodations, making it also the most convenient option for grocery shopping. The prices for Tesco superstore and Tesco Metro are around the same but some items might be a little bit more expensive than Aldi or Lidl.

     TOP TIPS

     - All Tesco stores will have a reduce rack, ask the staff where is it          as you may find some really good bargains

     - Apply for a Tesco Clubcard either online or get a form in one of            the stores to get vouchers as you spend in Tesco
